Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) sales of China-made vehicles slumped last month, contrary to the performance of major Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers.

Tesla China sold 58,459 vehicles in April, including those sold in China and those exported from China to overseas markets, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

That's down 5.96 percent from 62,167 vehicles in the same period last year, and down 25.84 percent from 78,828 vehicles in March.

In January-April, Tesla China sold 231,213 vehicles, including exports. That's an 18.31 percent decrease from 283,043 in the same period last year.

Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, both for deliveries to local customers and as an export hub for it.

Figures for Tesla's deliveries in China in April and exports from the Shanghai plant are not yet available.

Tesla China's performance differs from the strong numbers from major Chinese EV makers.

Inc (NYSE: NIO) delivered 23,900 vehicles in April, its second highest ever, behind 31,138 in December of last year, according to figures it announced on May 1.

That's up 53.01 percent from 15,620 vehicles in the same period last year and up 58.92 percent from 15,039 in March.

(NYSE: XPEV) delivered 35,045 vehicles in April, the second highest on record behind December 2024's 36,695 units.

That is the sixth consecutive month that Xpeng's monthly deliveries have been above the 30,000 mark, up 273.10 percent year-on-year and up 5.54 percent from March.

(NASDAQ: LI) delivered 33,939 vehicles in April, up 31.61 percent from 25,787 a year ago while down 7.46 percent from 36,674 in March.

Xiaomi's (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) electric vehicle (EV) unit Xiaomi EV delivered more than 28,000 units in April.

Nio Inc had 5,100 insurance registrations in China last week, including 3,470 under the Nio brand, 1,280 for Onvo and 350 for Firefly.
