- This is the first internal test video of Nio's NWM driver assist system, with zero takeover throughout the 39.3 km route.
- Nio will present more details at the ES6 and EC6 launch event later today.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) has shared the internal test performance of its driver assist system using the Nio World Model (NWM) technology, which is expected to help it regain ground in the smart driving space.
Harry Wong, the electric vehicle (EV) maker's head of smart driving products and experiences, today shared a video showing a Nio vehicle achieving point-to-point pilot-assisted driving with the help of NWM technology.
This is the first internal test video on NWM, starting at an underground parking space in a residential neighborhood and ending at a parking space in an office campus.
The car completed the entire 39.3 km route with zero takeover, passing through 23 traffic lights and scenarios including highway toll gates.

Wong will give more details about the NWM at the launch event of the ES6 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and EC6 Coupe SUV later today.
Nio will officially launch the ES6 and EC6 at an event that starts at 7:30 pm Beijing time today.
"The first version of NWM was closed yesterday, so please wait for the good news for users of the Banyan and Cedar systems," Wong wrote on Weibo.
Banyan is the system used by Nio's models built on the NT 2.0 vehicle platform, while Cedar is the system used by the Nio ET9.
Nio's main Weibo account retweeted Wong's Weibo post and said the company will further introduce NWM at the launch event later today.
Nio announced on March 20 that it would begin trials of NWM to pioneer users in early April.
However, the plan was delayed as Chinese regulators ramped up regulations on driver assistance system software in April.
In the smart driving space, pre-written rules-based solutions were the earliest consensus. Over the past two years, the end-to-end technology used by Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has become the dominant new solution.
In the past few months, however, the discussion about world models has started to grow significantly.
Nio's vice president of smart driving, Ren Shaoqing, announced the NWM at the Nio IN 2024 Tech Day event on July 27, 2024, calling it the world's first smart driving world model.
The model can derive 216 possible scenarios in 100 milliseconds and find optimal decisions from them.
Ren said at the time that end-to-end technology isn't enough for smart driving, and that a world model is needed if vehicles are to be able to make driving decisions in the same way as the human brain.
