-backed Aito has seen stunning sales results for its new model, the M8 SUV (sport utility vehicle).

After 34 days on the market, the Aito M8 has accumulated more than 80,000 firm orders, several local automotive media outlets, including Yiche, said in a report yesterday, citing a poster from Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance).

In China, a firm order usually refers to an order for which a non-refundable deposit has been paid, although some carmakers offer a hesitation period of several days to allow consumers to get a refund.

Aito launched the M8 on April 16, and the mid to large-size SUV is the brand's fourth model.

Aito offers six variants of the model, all of which are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), including three trim options -- Max, Max+, and Ultra -- each of which is available in five- and six-seat variants.

Starting prices for the five-seat version of the Aito M8 are RMB 359,800 ($49,880), RMB 379,800 and RMB 429,800 respectively. The six-seat version starts at RMB 369,800, RMB 399,800 and RMB 449,800 respectively.

Shortly after the official launch, HIMA said the Aito M8 received more than 8,000 firm orders in eight minutes and more than 20,000 firm orders in the first hour.

The Aito M8 measures 5,190 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,795 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm.

The Aito M8 will compete with 's (NASDAQ: LI) Li L8 EREV, which is currently offered in three variants starting at RMB 321,800, RMB 349,800, and RMB 379,800 respectively.

Aito is a premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand jointly launched by Huawei and Seres Group on December 2, 2021, and is the first vehicle brand under the HIMA business.

Other models currently on sale under the brand include the Aito M5, Aito M7, and Aito M9, with the Aito M7 being offered only in the EREV variant, while both the Aito M5 and Aito M9 are offered in both EREV and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.

The updated Aito M9 starts at RMB 469,800 ($64,860), the same as its predecessor.
