Denza, BYD's (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium brand, saw the delivery of its 10,000th N9 SUV (sport utility vehicle) to a rising star in China's tech industry.

Denza recently held a delivery ceremony for its 10,000th N9 at BYD's global headquarters in Shenzhen, where BYD's chairman and president Wang Chuanfu handed over the keys to Zhou Jian, founder, chairman and CEO of UBTech Robotics (HKG: 9880).

This marks the 10,000th delivery of the N9 in just two months since its March 21 launch, Denza said in a statement today.

Zhou, a pioneer in China's humanoid robot industry, founded UBTech in 2012, which has grown to become a leader in humanoid robots, Denza's statement noted.

UBTech was founded in March 2012 and is headquartered in Shenzhen. The company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on December 29, 2023, under the ticker symbol HKG: 9880.

In 2018, UBTech launched Walker, a first-generation humanoid robot for general services that can perform tasks including walking, voice interaction, guidance, greeting, and reception services.

Currently, several car companies including BYD, Nio (NYSE: ), and Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) have been trying out UBTech's humanoid robots on their car assembly lines.

Zhou is one of several high-profile entrepreneurs among BYD's owners.

On April 21, BYD's ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang announced that it delivered its 10,000th car to Yu Minhong, founder of Chinese education group New Oriental.

On August 9, 2023, BYD saw its 5 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), a Denza N7, roll off the production line. The car was delivered to Luo Zhenyu, a famous Chinese entrepreneur and speaker.

The Denza N9 went on sale on March 21 and is offered in two variants starting at RMB 389,800 ($54,160) and RMB 449,800 respectively.

The six-seat hybrid SUV becomes Denza's flagship model and measures 5,258 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width and 1,830 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.

It is equipped with BYD's e3 technology and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The Denza N9's main competitors include 's (NASDAQ: LI) Li L9, which starts at RMB 409,800, and Aito's M9, which starts at RMB 469,800.

Denza sold 15,388 units in April, up 38.36 percent year-on-year and up 21.93 percent from March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

This includes 5,018 units of the N9, 9,045 units of the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), 1,023 units of the Z9 series and 302 units of the N7 SUV.

Denza filed for the new SUV N8L, which looks to be a slightly scaled-down version of the N9, according to a regulatory filing last week.

Denza N9 starts at $53,770 and will compete in the large luxury SUV segment against Li Auto's Li L9 and Aito's M9.
