Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has hinted that it will adopt Chinese tech giant Huawei's in-car display solution for one of its new models, marking a rare collaboration between the two companies.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker shared a poster on Weibo today showing that one of its new models will adopt Huawei's HUD (heads-up display) solution.

The solution allows the vehicle's front windshield to display information such as remaining range, assisted driving software status, speed, and navigation information, according to the poster.

"This industry hasn't seen any groundbreaking changes in a long time. Change starts now!" Xpeng wrote on Weibo.

Xpeng did not provide further details, but its poster hinted at a launch event scheduled for 2:30 pm Beijing time on June 5.

As Huawei has entered the EV sector in recent years through joint efforts with domestic automotive giants, it has had friction with Xpeng in multiple areas, particularly in the field of smart driving.

In November 2023, Richard Yu, Huawei's executive director and chairman of the consumer business group, hinted in a status update on his WeChat account that Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng did not understand what AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) was.

Mr. He subsequently responded, sparking widespread discussion on social media platforms.

In February this year, Mr. He shared a photo of himself with Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei on Weibo, stating, "It is an honor to learn from and exchange ideas with Mr. Ren."

Huawei has not directly participated in vehicle manufacturing but has collaborated with multiple domestic automotive giants to launch several new EV brands.

The tech giant also provides ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) software and solutions including LiDAR and display systems.

Xpeng's new SUV is officially named the Xpeng G7 and may be the most competitive SUV in the RMB 250,000 ($34,100) class this year, an executive said.
